Kronprinzenpalais, Berlin

202030 - The Berlin Fashion Summit returned with the 202030 Pop-up: Culture & Communication during Berlin Fashion Week. The sustainable fashion community gathered for four hours of conversations on cultural change and inclusivity, the impact of fashion storytelling, and in Berlin’s local fashion scene.

"With our second 202030 pop-up, we are once again offering a particularly compact and specialist format on communication topics relating to cultural sustainability and networking with leading thinkers and doers in the sustainable fashion community. We are already very excited about the discussion and are delighted about the great interest."

Clare Press, the podcaster behind Wardrobe Crisis, started the day off with a keynote ‘Fashion’s Power of Storytelling,’ addressing how we can change narratives to change our relationship with fashion. She also introduced her latest book  Wear Next: Fashioning the Future, for which she gave a live book signing following the conference. The panel “Belonging in Berlin & Beyond: DEIB in Fashion” included Mick Morris Mehnert (Auf Augenhöhe Design), Anbid Zaman (Campaign against Homophobia Germany), and Beatrace Angut Oola (Fashion Africa Now) in a critical dialogue about how fashion in Germany can go further than inclusivity strategies to give all voices a seat at the table. “Craft & Culture: Putting Berlin Talents on The Map” was a conversation between Magdalena Schaffrin (studio MM04) and Sevil Uguz (PLATTE Berlin) on programs that support the next generation of local design talents. And Finally, Ayan Yuruk (SHOWZ) and Moritz Vierboom (Changemakers.film, Planetnarratives) spoke in the conversation “Sustainability Storytelling in Fashion, Film and Society.”

“Of course we need to look honestly at fashion problems - many of which seem to be getting worse: overproduction, exploitation, waste to name a few - but when we stop there, we limit ourselves and what we can achieve. The magic happens when we take the time to dream, collectively, of a better fashion future, and expand the detail of that vision, together.”
